Yellowknife (Oct 12/05) - The National Breastfeeding Challenge transformed the great hall of the legislative assembly on Saturday morning.
More 40 people including mothers, babies, children and supporters were at the event hosted by the Yellowknife Breastfeeding Support Group.
"The goal is to protect, promote and support breastfeeding in the community," said Jodi Woolam, the president of the group also known as Moms, Boobs and Babies.
"We tried to make it a bigger event, (but) we're absolutely thrilled with the turnout."
"It's something I did with my three boys and something I want to encourage others to do," said Ronna Kingsley who came out to support the event even though her children are beyond breastfeeding age.
Eighteen women were breastfeeding at the stroke of 11 a.m. when the challenge started. Yellowknife was competing with cities across Canada.
Artwork from the event will be on display at the legislative assembly until Oct. 8.
