Sgt. Michael Payne of the Yellowknife RCMP said Inuktalik was picked up at a residence in the Range Lake Road area at about 4:20 p.m. Thursday.
He was charged with unlawful confinement, sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats in connection with the incident.
"We found him based on some tips from the general public combined with some good old-fashioned police work," Payne said.
Inuktalik was not believed to be a threat to the general public, according to RCMP.
"But this was a serious assault and (police wanted) to get him into custody as quickly as possible," Payne said.
During the arrest, Payne said Inuktalik was co-operative and did not resist the two police officers who arrived to take him into custody.
Police were able to talk with Inuktalik by cellular phone the morning of the incident, however he failed to turn himself in and went into hiding.
The victim was taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital for treatment of undetermined injuries.
Inuktalik was to appear in Yellowknife territorial court today (Sept.
9).
