Run-off election for Deninu Ku'e

Fort Resolution (Sep 05/05) - Members of Fort Resolution's Deninu Ku'e First Nation are not quite finished voting yet.

In an Aug. 29 by-election, two candidates tied for the fourth and final seat on council.

Leonard Beaulieu Sr. and Georgina Biscaye both earned 35 votes.

The vote has been set for Sept. 12.

Three new councillors were elected on Aug. 29.

Frank (Rocky) Lafferty topped the poll with 49 votes, followed by Louis Balsillie with 46 votes and Jim Villeneuve with 41 votes.

One position on the six-member council is for a four-year term, while the other three are for two years.

Twelve candidates in all ran for council, including Kevin Boucher, Carol Collins, Harvey Mandeville, Angela McKay, Margaret Miersch, Bill Norn and Dave Pierrot.

Of the band's 525 eligible voters, 115 cast ballots on Aug. 29.
