Yellowknife (Sep 28/05) - From parents and students to community groups, people proved they are eager to make the dream of a green Mildred Hall schoolyard into a reality.

More than 26 people, including six Grade 8 students from the school, gave up their Saturday afternoon to participate in a workshop on the playground.

Using scale maps, the participants created versions of their dreams should look like.

Ideas for how the schoolyard and Franklin Ave. should connect differed, but everyone agreed the area needs to be green.

The student representatives said they want a grass area where they can play sports and not cut up their skin when they dive for balls.

"I think we all have scars from the playground," said Harley Squires, a grade 8 student.

Currently there is only one grass area and it is fenced off and used for the flagpoles.
