Resolute (Sep 19/05) - Qarmartalik school principal Brian Manning was appointed by the government of Nunavut as justice of the peace in Resolute.

"I have a great respect for the tradition and people of the North and am happy to play this small role in that tradition," said Manning.

Manning says he is dedicated to learning Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principals, one of which is service, or pijitsirniq.

"I feel very privileged to provide this service to the community."

Manning says the position will not divert him from his position at the school, which he began at the beginning of 2004.

"A lot of the duties of the job can be done outside of the school day."

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for early October in the hamlet chambers.
