More Rae violence; three stabbed

Yellowknife (Aug 31/05) - Two men and a woman are in Stanton Territorial Hospital with multiple stab wounds following two early morning attacks in Rae.

A fourth man was also assaulted, but was not stabbed and did not require hospital treatment.

RCMP arrested a 34-year-old Rae man shortly after the two separate incidents in private homes, that began at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday.

"Until the victims are interviewed we don't really know where to go," said RCMP Sgt. Bill Eubank.

"The investigation is in its infant stages."

However, Eubank said that Tuesday's attacks were not related to a gruesome assault in Rae last week.

An aunt of one of the victims, believes the community needs alcohol and drug education to bring an end to violent incidents.

"There is a lot of anger and fear about what is going to happen next," she said. Her niece was released from hospital Tuesday afternoon.

"This is a long-term thing,it has to be a long-term program," she said.

The man who was arrested will appear in a Yellowknife courtroom today for a bail hearing.

He is expected to face three counts of aggravated assault, and one count of common assault.
