Iqaluit (Aug 22/05) - While the rest of Canada is seeing prices rise above $1 a litre for regular unleaded gas, Nunavummiut haven't seen an increase, yet.

At the Taqqut Co-op in Arctic Bay, gas is 92 cents a litre. In Cambridge Bay, it's at 98 cents. In Iqaluit, Baffin Gas is charging 95 cents.

"Everybody has been calling me to see about the new price," said Tom Rich, deputy minister of Community and Government Services. The decision on gas pricing is made by cabinet and Rich won't comment until the ministers decide. The gas price is set once a year.

"We're still operating on last year's fuel, so the prices are still last year's," explained Rich.

The government is "in the midst of resupply" according to Rich.

"The population goes up, the demand goes up, we are looking at ordering a bit more." he said.
