Yellowknife (Aug 19/05) - Grey cloudy skies be damned - festival season is still with us.
The Festival of the Midnight Sun Society is holding a series of workshops next week covering Native bead work, taught by Alice Lafferty; drawing, with instructor John Murray; and calligraphy, humour writing and children's cartooning led by Bill Reid.
The workshops are scheduled between Monday and Thursday.
The Society's Art in the Park event will start at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the Northern United Place auditorium.
"It's our traditional annual Art in the Park festival, but this year it's not in the park," said co-organizer Pamela Murray.
There will be free cake and pop and an evening of musical entertainment, including classical guitarist Lyndon Duong, Bill Reid, Haida storyteller Roberta Kennedy and the Celidh Friends.
Western Arctic Moving Pictures (WAMP) will screen a selection of short films produced by their members.
The movies will be followed by a late night pizza party for volunteers and participants.
The event is sponsored by the City of Yellowknife and the Co-op.
