Post office move postponed

Rae-Edzo (Aug 15/05) - A buyer has not been found for the Behchoko Canada Post outlet.

Canada Post has been looking for a local business to house the operation for more than two months.

A number of businesses have applied to provide the service, but Canada Post's Ron Kingsley would not say which ones, or how many.

"We're just waiting for the applications to come back," said Kingsley, the NWT area manager.

The operation is tentatively scheduled to remain in the old Co-op building, which closed at the end of March, until a new dealer is approved.

The community's Northern Store had previously expressed interest in providing the service.

Kingsley said he does not know when a decision will be reached, but added there would be no interruption in the community's postal service.

"The community seems to be pleased with the present level of service," he said.
