Yellowknife (July 08/05) - The fire that destroyed a Kingmingya Road residence on June 11 is being investigated by Inuvik RCMP as a possible arson.

According to Staff Sgt. Sid Gray, Inuvik Fire Marshall Claude Gervais' report said the fire began "somewhere on the extremities of the house

However, he couldn't give us the cause of the fire," Gray said.

Gray added that police were looking into the possibility the fire was started by someone, based on Gervais' findings and their interviews with owner Nazem Kadri.

"It could have been accidental, kids playing with matches nearby who had no intention of burning down the house," Gray noted.

Gervais was unable to comment on the matter as he is currently on duty travel.

Kadri was in Edmonton at press time and also unavailable for comment.

The residence, which will have to be removed from the property according to Inuvik Fire Chief Al German, provided housing for three people.

All have since found other living arrangements.
