NTI wants seats filled

Northern News Services

Yellowknife (July 25/05) - Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. is tired of waiting for the federal government to fill seats on the Nunavut wildlife management board.

NTI president Paul Kaludjak called on minister of Indian and Northern Affairs Andy Scott to appoint a chairperson to the board, which has been without a leader for eight months.

It's not the only vacant seat. A second board position - that is also filled by the federal government - has been vacant since January 2003. The eight-member board is also facing the expiration of two other seats, one in December and another in February 2006.

"If it takes this long to re-appoint the remaining two board members, the organization will not have enough members for a quorum," said Kaludjak.
