Teenaged filmmaker Kelvin Redvers of Hay River has won two major scholarships.

Kelvin Redvers, 18, recently won two major scholarships.

One is the $30,000 Simon Fraser Alumni Leadership Scholarship. Redvers plans to begin studies at the university this fall for a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in film.

Redvers will also be receiving $20,000 as a National Excellence Award Winner under the Millennium Scholarship program. One hundred of the scholarships are awarded across Canada.

The two scholarships will be paid over the four years Redvers will be in university after he graduates this year from Diamond Jenness Secondary School, where he is student council president.

"They were both happy days when I found out about them," he said.

The scholarships are awarded based on marks, community involvement and leadership.

"I always worked hard at what I've done and it feels good to have it all pay off," Redvers adds.
