Yellowknife (June 20/05) - In Fort Simpson, village councillors Tom Wilson and Owen Rowe agreed that the municipality's crumbling infrastructure is in desperate need of money.

Between them, they listed the community's water and sewage lines, main street, the arena roof and water treatment plant as maintenance priorities.

Berna Landry, chief of the Deh Gah Got'ie First Nation in Fort Providence, said Northern Strategy money would best be used for management training so local people can advance in business and self-government.

Fort Liard Mayor Dianne Gonet wants Northern Strategy funding to help with capacity building and enhance social programs.

"I think it should be determined by each community's needs," Gonet said.
