Yellowknife (June 17/05) - A week after returning from Helsinki as the best young web designer in the world, Chris Fournier got the royal treatment from public school trustees at a regular meeting.

Chair Reanna Erasmus congratulated the 19-year-old web whiz who won gold at the World Skills Competition in Finland in early June.

Fournier received the praise sitting next to his teacher Al Petten, who guided him into Skills Clubs in Grade 9, and his mom, Bonnie.

"We'll be watching you over the years to see where you go from here," Eramus told Fournier, who is studying software engineering at Carleton University.

The public school district plans to announce who they've chosen to take over the superintendent's helm by Friday.

Albertan Ken Dropko became the interim superintendent of the district in May after Judith Knapp was dismissed with two months left in her contract, April 29.

While chairperson Reanna Erasmus wouldn't comment on who was in the running for the CEO spot, Dropko's hat was not in the ring for the job.

In his superintendent's report for the June 14 meeting, the former Fort Vermillion boss said he will stay on until September to work with the new superintendent.

Money to remember Spence

The district announced a $1,000 donation in former chairperson Robert Spence's name on Tuesday night.

The donation will go to the NWT Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists, of which Spence was a member.

Chairperson of the Yk No. 1 board from 1966-70, Spence died in Yellowknife on April 8, at age 81.

Duff Spence, his son and a current trustee, excused himself from voting on the motion.
