Coppermine (May 09/05) - The Nattiq Frolics was successful in every way this year.

It wasn't just full bellies and prize winners that enjoyed the Kugluktuk festival. Unlike other years, the Frolics came out $7,000 in the black this year, SAO Paul Waye was happy to report.

The Frolics are held each year to joyfully announce the arrival of springtime with games and races.

Frank Ikpakohak won the seal derby.

Adam Kikpak and Jordeen Tiktalik were named Frolics King and Queen.

Ms. and Mr. Coppermine were Mona Himiak and David Enogeloak.

Ryan Nivingalok won the hill climb and all the cross country snowmobile races.

Waye credits Millie Kuliktana and her husband Simon for organizing such a pleasant event this year.

"It was very well run," said Waye. "Millie and her husband did an excellent job."

Last year, the prizes may have been a little bigger, said Waye, but the Frolics committee also went $12,000 into the red.
