Nunavut News up for national awards

Iqaluit (May 30/05) - You're reading a blue ribbon newspaper that is one of the best in all of Canada.

Nunavut News/North is a top-three finalist in its category at this week's Canadian Community Newspapers Association (CCNA) better newspapers competition.

Results will be announced Friday during the CCNA convention in Banff, Alta.

With its nomination, the newspaper receives a Blue Ribbon award and is in the running for two other national prizes.

The Mining North supplement, published in June 2004, is one of the finalists in best special section competition while cartoonist Norm Muffitt is a finalist for best local cartoon.

These are among eight total award nominations for Northern News Services publications.

NWT News/North is nominated in two categories: best business writing and best special section, for Opportunities North 2004 which was also distributed in Nunavut News/North.

Deh Cho Drum was nominated for best overall paper in its class and for best ad design. Inuvik Drum is among top three for best front page in its class.
