News/North up for national awards

Yellowknife (May 30/05) - Two new plaques will be added to the wall at the News/North office this week.

The newspaper is a top-three finalist in two Canadian Community Newspapers Association better newspapers competitions.

Secret Loans, a feature report about the NWT Business Credit Corporation, is nominated for business writing. As well, Opportunities North 2004, is nominated for best special section.

These are among eight total nominations for Northern News Services publications.

Deh Cho Drum was nominated for best overall paper in its class and for best ad design. Inuvik Drum is among top three for best front page in its class.

Nunavut News/North is up for three awards, including a top-three finalist for best overall newspaper its class, which helped the paper earn a Blue Ribbon award.

The other nominations for Nunavut News are for Mining North, best special section; and cartoonist Norm Muffitt, best local cartoon.

Muffitt also draws cartoons for NWT News/North.

Results will be announced Friday during the CCNA convention in Banff, Alberta.
