Yellowknife (May 02/05) - Four young NWT artists will join the territory's athletes at the Canada Summer Games this August.

Sport North and the NWT Arts Council chose Kiera Kolson, a singer from Yellowknife; Jared Monkman, a singer from Hay River; and carvers Raquel Nuttall and Koomuartuk Curley from Yellowknife.

The young artists will be considered full members of Team NWT and, as such, will be outfitted with the team uniform. The Summer Games committee specified that each provincial and territorial team of artists was to be made up of two male and two female youth and at least one of the four must be aboriginal.

The four will work as a team with 48 other artist delegates from across the country and some professional Saskatchewan artists.

They will have two weeks to come up with a gala performance of collaborative art.

The young artists will work together in groups of five or six with one of the professional artist mentors.

The final product will explore the parallels between art and sport and will celebrate Canada's diversity.

The 2005 Canada Summer Games runs August 6 to 20 in Regina. This year's theme is "No limits."
