Yellowknife (May 25/05) - Police are investigating a fire on the Ingraham Trail, near the road to Dettah.

Firefighters arrived at the Akaitcho Lot at 10:03 Friday morning where a utility trailer burned to the ground.

It is unknown how long the trailer was burning before the call was made by a GNWT highway employee at 9:48 a.m.

"The place was destroyed," said Lieut. Chucker Dewar. "Our job was to keep it from spreading to the wild lands."

The wet weather made that job easier. The fire did not spread to the surrounding grass.

Thick with white smoke filled the air and out of the trailer in waves as crews extinguished the last of the fire.

The fire marshal's office is investigating. Fire marshal Claude Gervais said that they are looking at a dead end in their investigation unless somebody comes forward to claim the property.

There is no word on how much the property was worth. RCMP are looking for a green car that was seen in the area, but have no other leads so far.
