Yellowknife (May 20/05) - The upcoming season of the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre (NACC) was unveiled Monday, to the delight of a standing-room only crowd at the Explorer Hotel.

More than 160 people gathered for the announcement.

The first two acts, Lorne Elliot and the Montreal Guitar Trio, will travel to Inuvik before coming to Yellowknife. This exchange of artists will work both ways, said Ben Nind, executive and artistic director at NACC.

The last show of this season's series, a Festival of Stories, will feature Rene Fumoleau from Lutsel Ke', Jim Green from Fort Smith and John B. Zoe from Rae-Edzo.

December's North Star Christmas Celebration will feature - and open with - Northern music, dance and storytelling acts from around the NWT, Nind said.

In the depths of winter, Juan Martin and his flamenco troupe will warm up the theatre in February. The one-man circus act - staged by former artistic director of Cirque du Soleil, Paul Vachon - brings a mix of acrobatics, music, acting and storytelling to the stage.

The series ends next May, with a show by the Turtle Gals, three aboriginal performers based in Toronto.

Their performance, The Scrubbing Project, blends song, dance and comedy while exploring life as a Native woman in the 21st century.
