Crime watch:
Alcohol tops 40 per cent of RCMP calls

Yellowknife (Apr 06/05) - Alcohol was involved in 42 percent of the calls RCMP took from March 21 to April 3. Of 490 calls, 208 of them were to assist with intoxicated persons.

During the same period of time, there were two theft from vehicles reported. Nothing appeared to have been taken in either instance.

Two businesses were reported broken into, as were three homes. Among the items reported stolen were furniture and a small amount of cash.

There was one report of possession of cannabis.

Two complaints of cocaine trafficking were received. In one instance two people were charged with trafficking.

There were three assaults with weapons reported to police. An axe and a glass were among the weapons apparently used.

There were nine complaints of impaired driving. One person was charged.

There were 47 common assaults reported. These included minor disturbances and domestic disputes.

There were five collisions reported, with one involving injuries and four involving damages to both vehicles in excess of $1,000.

There were nine vehicles and snowmobiles reported stolen.

There were five complaints of sexual assault.

Five reports of shoplifting were received. Mouthwash, clothing, food and sunglasses were among the items reported stolen.

Eight traffic tickets were issued.
