Window breaker gets jail

Yellowknife (Apr 20/05) - A Yellowknife homeless man was sentenced to 60 days in jail Tuesday for -- among other things -- breaking a window at the Salvation Army.

Floyd Tsetso, 29, smashed his elbow into a window at the downtown shelter Feb. 10 after an employee denied him entrance. Tsetso was intoxicated at the time.

"The arms of alcohol are not loving," said Chief Judge Brian Bruser, in sentencing Tsetso to 15 days in jail on the charge of mischief.

Tsesto was given another 30 days behind bars after employees at a downtown grocery store caught him trying to shoplift a pork roast.

Tsetso received another 15 days for skipping a court hearing because, his lawyer said, he was drunk and did not want to appear before a judge while intoxicated.

"He was caught between the devil and deep blue sea," said defence lawyer James Brydon.
