Weapons used in 10 assaults

Yellowknife (Apr 20/05) - Between April 4 and April 17, police were called out 10 times to deal with reports of assaults with a weapon. A baseball bat was involved in two of the incidents.

Over the two-week period, RCMP responded to 536 calls for service.

The bulk of the police work dealt with 186 calls to assist with intoxicated persons.

There were 48 common assaults reported. These included minor disturbances and domestic disputes. One report of sexual assault was also received.

Police investigated five theft from vehicles. Items stolen included tools, equipment and cash.

Eleven residences and businesses were broken into. Items reported stolen include tools and cash.

There were five complaints of shoplifting received. Items stolen include a camera, a sewing kit, food, and a remote control car.

There were three complaints of possession of marijuana. One person was charged.

There were 12 reports of impaired drivers. No charges were laid.

There were two motor vehicle collisions reported involving damages to the vehicles being in excess of $1,000.

Five automobiles/snowmobiles were reported stolen.

Police issued 17 traffic tickets.
