Snowmobiles, vehicles targeted in thefts

Yellowknife (Mar 09/05) - RCMP were called eight times to deal with reports of stolen vehicles or snowmobiles over two weeks. Six of these cases occurred downtown.

During the two week-period from Feb. 21 to March 6, RCMP responded to 487 complaints in all. Of these, 174 were to assist with intoxicated persons.

There were 46 complaints of common assault received. This includes minor disturbances, assaults, and domestic disputes.

There were five theft from vehicles reported. Among the items stolen were stereo equipment and a jerry can of gas.

There were five business break-ins. Among the items reported stolen were a postage scale and several coffee makers.

There were seven residential break-ins reported. Items reported stolen include a mountain bike, a skill saw and cigarettes.

One person was charged with possession of marijuana.

Police found 54.4 grams of cocaine unattended outside within the city limits.

One person was charged with impaired driving.

There were 10 motor vehicle collisions reported. Three of these involved injuries and seven involved damages over $1,000.

There were three complaints of sexual assault.

There were four reports of shoplifting received. Items stolen include clothing and medicine.

There were 14 traffic tickets issued.
