Pangnirtung (Mar 28/05) - The Qaqasiq family has launched a lawsuit against two RCMP officers, accusing them of entering their home without a warrant and manhandling their two sons.

They're claiming damages of $4.5 million, saying the family is still reeling from the violent altercation that occurred when police arrived at the home on the night of Feb. 13, 2003.

According to a statement of claim, Darryl Qaqasiq lost consciousness twice as he was taken into custody.

The family says the RCMP never had an arrest warrant.

In November 2004, a judge ruled the officer's actions seriously breached charter rights, but that decision was overturned in an appeal.

RCMP have not yet filed a statement of defence. Const. Richard White and Const. Shaun Devine are named in the suit.
