Pond Inlet child out of coma

Northern News Services

Pond Inlet (Mar 21/05) - A child who was in a coma after surviving a snowmobile crash in Pond Inlet is awake.

RCMP say the boy, who suffered head injuries in the crash, came out of his coma early last week in a London, Ont., hospital.

The crash occurred March 4 when a snowmobile carrying three kids and one woman collided with a pickup truck.

Police suspect the truck slipped on an icy patch when it slammed into the snowmobile that missed a stop sign and crossed its path.

All four people on the snowmobile were injured and sent to hospital in London.

Police reported the boy, who is the woman's son, was doing fine on Friday.

The driver of the pick-up truck and his son were not injured.

Police have still not released any of the people's names.

None of the people on the snowmobile in this case were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. RCMP are asking people to limit the number of passengers on snowmobiles.
