Yellowknife (Mar 18/05) - People, not machines, are the focus of a campaign to raise $100,000 for new medical equipment.

"People don't relate to equipment, they relate to people," said Linda Bussey, executive director of the Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation.

The campaign that opened March 15 will present 10 patients from different communities on posters that will be displayed around the NWT.

"They are very comfortable pictures, they appeal to people," said Bussey.

The last campaign, called Operation Looking Glass, took two years to raise $200,000 for the hospital.

"It took time to reach that goal. Now, we're going to get to our goals easier," she said.

The foundation also unveiled a new logo that features a big heart scrawled underneath its name.

"The heart is the spirit in the foundation," said chairperson Lynn Cook.

Finding patients willing to pose for the new campaign was easy, she said.

Many patients are looking for a way to help the hospital after they receive treatment and "they say, you know what, absolutely because it's meant so much to me," she said.

The foundation also released its first annual report. Until this year, the volunteer board released information within the hospital report.
