Break-in at cop shop

Fort Good Hope (Mar 14/05) - It's quickly become apparent that police are not immune to the ravages of crime.

The RCMP is investigating an unusual break-in at the Fort Good Hope detachment that took place in late November.

"Our exhibit locker was breached," said Insp. Greg Morrow, officer in charge of district policing for the RCMP.

Morrow would not release details of what, if anything, went missing from the evidence room.

Although police "absolutely" have a suspect in mind, Morrow said it will be up to the crown to decide whether or not to press charges.

Young offender

"I can't say much more because it's a young offender involved," he said.

According to police, the incident has been kept quiet for more than three months to ensure the integrity of the investigation.

Morrow said the delay was partially due to the need for investigators to conduct interviews out of the territories.

Details of the crime were disclosed earlier to crown and some defence counsels with clients whose cases could be affected by the evidence room break-in, Morrow said.
