Tim Hortons not on its way

Iqaluit (Feb 21/05) - Despite much speculation, and hope, Nunavummiut will have to wait at least a year longer before they can order a double-double from Tim Hortons.

A spokesperson for the coffee and doughnut retailer says Nunavut is not in the company's 2005 expansion plans.

"Obviously we'd love to come up there eventually, but our current focus is to fill up our current markets," said Diane Slopek-Weber.

A 2006 development plan is not yet available, Slopek-Weber said.

Nunavut is the only Canadian jurisdiction without a Tim Hortons restaurant.

There are 2,400 Tim Hortons stores across Canada, and 250 locations in the United States.

Originally started by hockey player Tim Horton, the chain passed to Ron Joyce, now the sole owner, after Horton's death in a 1974 car accident. In 1995, the company merged with Wendy's International.
