Hay River (Feb 21/05) - A charge has been laid in connection with the seizure of a large amount of marijuana in a wooded area of Hay River in November.

Ronald Crombie, 45, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Crombie is to appear in Hay River Territorial Court on March 21.

When the drugs were seized, police suspected they may have been from a grow operation in the Hay River area. That's no longer the case.

"There are no links to suggest it was a grow operation," says RCMP Sgt. Greg Downing.

He says, while the investigation is continuing, no further arrests are anticipated.

In early November, the RCMP received an anonymous tip from someone who had stumbled upon a carton containing marijuana.

A police search of the wooded area found several other containers with nearly eight kilograms of marijuana with an estimated street value of $118,000.

A carton with 160 grams of marijuana seeds valued over $8,000 was also located.
