Get out and vote!

Northern News Services

Iqaluit (Dec 06/04) - Residents from across Nunavut will be choosing some of their hamlet council members on Dec. 13.

Councillors elected last year have one year remaining in their mandate.

Some communities will also be choosing their mayor.

Twenty-three people have put their name forward for five hamlet councillor positions in Gjoa Haven.

A lack of competition has seen hamlet council members acclaimed in Qikiqtarjuaq, Pond Inlet, Kimmirut and Grise Fiord.

According to election officials, Grise Fiord often has trouble attracting enough candidates because of its small size.

Those who have not registered to vote can do so at the polling stations on voting day.

People are being advised to listen to their community radio station for the polling station location.

Advance polling takes place today, Dec. 6.
