This year, the large two-storey log cabin-style building is host to numerous activities leading up to Christmas.

Kristin McDonald, the youth leadership project officer, said this year the 12 Days of Christmas event includes a Festival of Trees for the very first time.

Businesses, organizations or groups within Inuvik and beyond are invited to bring in a Christmas tree and decorate it in a special way to celebrate the season.

Prizes will be awarded.

"It's something we thought would be nice for the organizations.

"We're trying to ask them to make all their decorations out of their business cards, or something to do with their company," McDonald said.

While there has been little response yet, McDonald attributes that to the very cold temperatures the Delta has been experiencing, thus preventing people from going out on the land to select a tree.

It is also because of cold temperatures that the decision was made to hold the festival inside the hall as opposed to outside, she added.

All the trees will be on display downstairs on the stage.

"It's a display for all the events that are here. People can come in and view them."
