Hay River (Nov 08/04) - Well-known Hay River resident Ross Ullathorne died Nov. 2 at 80 years old.

Born in Montreal, Ullathorne moved to Hay River in 1964 and worked at Northern Transportation Company Ltd. until his retirement.

Ullathorne served one term on Hay River town council in the 1980s and, until recently, was on the NWT Liquor Licensing Board.

A navy veteran of the Second World War, Ullathorne was also very active in the Royal Canadian Legion.

"He really cared a lot about the Legion," says Branch #250 president Bill Wright. "He was a real Legionnaire."

Ullathorne, a former branch president, was treasurer at the time of his death.

"He was a gentleman through and through," said friend Gerhard Berg. "He never had a bad word to say about anyone."
