Yellowknife (Nov 03/04) - Police have released the name of a Yellowknife man arrested last week in connection with a stabbing near the Frame Lake Trail.

John Lawrence Gruben, 40, has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.

Gruben was arrested Oct. 27 following a stabbing incident that left another Yellowknife man in hospital with wounds to his torso and neck.

Police said his injuries were not life threatening.

Motive not given

While police declined to release the motive for the stabbing, police said three people were in a tent on the Frame Lake Trail at the time of the incident. Alcohol may have been a factor.

In addition to the latest charges laid Oct. 28, Gruben is facing unrelated charges of assaulting a police officer and theft under $5,000.

He has been denied bail and was scheduled to appear in territorial court Nov. 2 to answer to the charges.
