RCMP take 142 calls in one weekend

Yellowknife (Nov 03/04) - While RCMP responded to 142 complaints over the Halloween weekend, a spokesperson said there were no major incidents.

RCMP say Spook-a-rama was well attended by youth and very few problems occurred at this particular event.

During the weekend, 69 people were lodged into RCMP cells, 52 of these were intoxicated.

Eight people were arrested for assault, one for impaired driving and two for breaching an undertaking.

Three people were arrested and charged for assaulting a peace officer stemming from two separate incidents. Two occurred when RCMP were dispatched to a fight outside of a liquor establishment, and one when police attended a domestic dispute.

Throughout the two weeks from Oct. 18 to Oct. 31, police responded to 532 complaints

Of these, 167 were to assist with intoxicated persons. There was one attempted theft from a motor vehicle.

There were 15 break and enters. Eight of these were into business. Among the items stolen were food, and cash. Cash and video equipment were among the items stolen from the seven residential break ins.

There was one complaint of a robbery.

Three complaints of possession of cannabis were received and one complaint of trafficking in cocaine. No persons were charged with these offenses.

There were 48 complaints of assault received. These were for common assaults and domestic disputes.

There were seven complaints of sexual assault.

There were five assaults with a weapon complaints received during this time period. One of the items used as a weapon was a sword.

Eight complaints of impaired driving were received. One person was issued a 24-hour suspension and one person was charged with impaired driving.

There were two collisions involving non life-threatening injuries. Two collisions involved damages over $1,000, and one involved damages under $1,000.

Four vehicles were reported stolen and all were recovered.

There were eight traffic tickets issued.

There were 11 complaints of shoplifting received by RCMP. Among the items stolen were food and alcohol.
