Safe rescue

Brent Reaney Northern News Services

Broughton Island (Nov 29/04) - With the help of a coast guard helicopter, five hunters were rescued less than a day after being reported missing.

The men had gone to hunt seals near a small inlet on Baffin Island about 10km from the community on Nov. 18.

"But there were waves on the ice, so the ice was breaking up," said Search and Rescue Captain Philip Sanguya.

At around 6:45 p.m. Nov. 18, one of the men's family members called Search and Rescue.

"We were very lucky that we had the coast guard nearby," Sanguya said.
