Yellowknife (Nov 26/04) - A Yellowknife man was fined $500 and placed on probation for six months, Tuesday, for threatening to kill a police officer. Edward Kikoak, 24, told an RCMP member "I'd kill you, but I don't have the tools" after he was picked up for public intoxication at around 4 a.m., Oct. 14, court heard.

After making the threat in RCMP cells, Kikoak flexed his arm and officers wrestled him to the ground, said Crown attorney Loretta Colton.

She told the court Kikoak continued to resist officers before being tasered. After the 50,000 volt shock, he was compliant, Colton said.

Kikoak pleaded guilty to a charge of uttering threats during Tuesday's court appearance. Kikoak did not intend to follow through on the threat, said his lawyer James Mahon, who characterized the outburst as "drunk talk."
