Inuvik (Nov 26/04) - Tourism is the world's fastest growing industry and the second-largest industry in the Northwest Territories.

Aurora College and the Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) have joined forces to create an Older Worker Tourism Program at the campus in Inuvik.

The aim of this program is to prepare students for employment in the tourism industry.

Once they have completed the required course material, the next step for the students is on-the-job training, where they will have the opportunity to use their knowledge and skills in the tourism industry.

In addition to receiving recognition for completion of the program, students are also offered the opportunity to apply for certification with the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council.

Worked hard

The tourism students in the inaugural program have worked very hard over the course of their studies, so if you ever need tourism information in or around the Inuvik area, do not hesitate to call upon these new tourism specialists. They will be happy to be your guide.

The current course runs until mid-December.

For more information on the program contact Anne Marie Picek at Aurora Campus or Donna Spurrell at the Inuvik ECE Career Centre.
