Yellowknife (Nov 12/04) - "I want people never to forget Remembrance Day and what it means," Korean War veteran Jan Stirling told an attentive audience at the Bear's Den Tuesday night.

Speaking with other women currently serving in the Canadian Forces, the Yellowknife resident and long-time public health nurse remembered and honoured those who served alongside her.

As a day nurse in an 80-bed surgical unit during the Korean War, she spent most of her days changing dressings and treating burns and shrapnel wounds, she explained.

"To this day I still think of all those people and how wonderful, how brave and how young they were," she said, as tears formed.
