North Wright Airways flew the Norman Wells teen to Yellowknife Friday, and back home on Monday.
Deschene, 14, wanted to compete in the singing contest, but wasn't sure how she would pay her travel costs. She told News/North last week she was looking for odd jobs and saving her babysitting money.
The Thursday before the contest, Deschene's mother Heidi said Bonnie was pumped for the competition and her family was supporting her all the way.
"We're behind her 100 per cent," said Heidi Deschene.
Deschene's grandfather phoned North Wright Airways to ask for their help.
David James, operations manager for North Wright Airways, knows Deschene's family and was happy to help.
"Hopefully she makes it," he said.
James said Deschene's participation in the singing competition would be great promotion for Norman Wells.
The Yellowknife Legion had originally required all the contestants to sing on the first night. Then the judges would eliminate two singers each Saturday, meaning a successful contestant will need to come back week after week.
But Lorne Power, organizer of the North of 60 Idol contest, acknowledged that the new rules worked against out-of-town singers.
The Legion adjusted the rules and the three out-of-towners, Deschene, Mackenzie Pope of Hay River and Fawn Fritzen of Fort Liard, appeared Oct. 2. If they survived the first cut (results were unavailable at press time), they will return next on Oct. 23.
