The event's goal is to raise funds for breast-cancer research.
The Rankin branch of the CIBC (Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce) has been involved with the run for the past five years, and co-ordinator Joanne Leonard said this was the most successful effort to date.
"Our goal this year was to get a lot of businesses involved, so we started sending out letters across the entire Kivalliq this past August," said Leonard.
"The response we received was amazing."
More than 20 Kivalliq businesses donated to the 2004 Run for the Cure, supplying everything from airline tickets to gift certificates.
Leonard said her main objective was to get the types of prizes donated that would motivate people to get involved with the run.
Generous businesses
"We were able to do that through the generosity of the business community and the event grew from there.
"Before the run even started we had raised $3,500 of our $6,000 target, just from people coming into the bank and donating."
Adults paid $35 to register for the run, while youth registered for free.
Adult participants who raised $125 or more had their registration returned.
"As an extra incentive for the kids to participate this year, we had a bicycle donated from both the Co-op and the Northern store.
"Every kid who raised $125 or more had their name entered into a draw for the bikes."
Ticket winners
Lisa Oolooyuk claimed the top prize of two tickets to anywhere Canadian North Airlines flies.
Michele Ashby's fundraising efforts won her a pass for two people on Calm Air.
Branch manager Stan Anderson said the success of the 2004 Run for the Cure is further testimony to the power of voluntarism and the generosity of people across the Kivalliq region.
"Events like this just don't happen by magic, they take a lot of hard work," said Anderson.
"Joanne put a lot of effort into this year's event and deserves a great deal of credit for its success."
