Yellowknife (Sep 08/04) - Yellowknife's newest taxi company, Capital Cabs, took to the streets Aug. 28.

Owners Phu Huynh and Francis Chang said it was a lot of work to set up the new taxi company. There were cars to paint, meters to buy and then every car had to be inspected, said Chang.

Many of the drivers for Capital Cabs came from other taxi companies.

"When you're in the taxi business you're your own businessman. If you're not happy you start your own business," said Chang.

"A lot of our drivers are shareholders and they're very experienced," said Huynh.

"Our drivers have anywhere from five years to 16 years experience driving in Yellowknife," he said.

A good chunk of change has been invested into Yellowknife's newest cab company.

Chang would only say his investment alone in the new company is into five figures.

"I bought two cars," said Chang.

The reaction to the new start-up has been very positive, said Chang.
