Cambridge Bay (Sep 06/04) - The Kitikmeot Heritage Society is hoping that a new Web site it launched on Sept. 1 about the history, the people and the various research projects in the region will appeal to people who want to learn more about Inuit of the Western Arctic.

A highlight of the site is The Angulalik -- Kitikmeot Fur Trader Exhibit based on two years of field work with 13 elders at Perry River.

Emily Angulalik, of Cambridge Bay, is thrilled the new site is finally launched.

"Many of the elders who assisted us with the Perry River research have passed away," said Angulalik, a Kitikmeot Heritage Society member.

"We are very proud that through this exhibit their voices will be heard by our younger generation."

The Kitikmeot Heritage Society is dedicating the site to elders Mabel Angulalik, James Evetalegak, Mackie and Annie Kaosoni, Susie Apiana and James Taipana.

These elders were part of the original Perry River research projects and have since passed away.

The site is launched in partnership with the Virtual Museums of Canada and is at www.kitikmeotheritage.ca.
