Inuvik (Sep 24/04) - Walk. Cycle. Run. Either way, the 35 participants who decided to embark on the annual Terry Fox Run in Inuvik had the same goal: to raise money for cancer research.

And for their efforts on either the 2km, 5km or 10km routes, participants raised more than $2,400.

"It was a great day thanks to all of the volunteers," said Town of Inuvik recreation co-ordinator Kelly Noseworthy. "We were down a bit from last year's money, but the enthusiasm was definitely there."

And so was the pleasant weather, amongst days of minor snow falls and cooler temperatures leading up to the event.

While the event was not a race, several of Inuvik's running contingent challenged the 10km course from the Midnight Sun Recreation Complex to Jak Park and back.

Notably, Jason King was the first back to the rec centre for the free hamburgers and hot dogs that followed the run.

On Monday, however, King was paying for his efforts as he hobbled a bit while making his way around Samuel Hearne high school where he's a teacher.

"Yeah, I'm in a bit of pain," he said.

But it was all for a good cause, of course.

Since the first Terry Fox Run in 1981, more than $340 million has been raised around the world for cancer research.
