Nunasi building expands

Yellowknife (Sep 01/04) - The Nunasi building on 48th Street is getting bigger.

The piles for the steel columns were being put in on Monday, with construction having started a couple of weeks ago.

Site supervisor Dan McRee, with Clark Builders, says the project is worth more than $3 million.

The extension will be two storeys, providing a second floor to half of the original building.

The space will be entirely dedicated to offices, said McRee.

There is a five-hand crew in place now, but that number will rise to between eight and 10 by the time the cement starts being poured.

Clark Builders is making good use of subcontractors on the site with 14 subtrades -- almost all local -- expected to work on the building.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of February 2005.

Clark Builders has been fairly busy this summer with the extension and the Mildred Hall renovations.

The Yellowknife construction company will soon start work on another office building kitty corner from Boston Pizza, also on 48th Street.
