Yellowknife (Sep 10/04) - Here is a select list of motions passed at the 34th Dene National Assembly, Aug. 30 to Sept. 2, in Yellowknife.

  • Mandate of Dene Development Corporation to undergo review for ability, capability and potential.

  • An ad hoc committee struck to further study financial report from auditor Charles Jeffrey. Audit revealed Dene Nation deficit of more than $350,000.

  • A review of student-teacher ratio funding by the territorial government. Recommendations for changes to be brought forward by the 35th Dene National Assembly.

  • Support for the K'Asho Got'ine of Fort Good Hope and all Dene governments to directly receive royalties from mining, oil and gas development.

  • Full support for legal action against federal government by Dehcho First Nations to obtain equal partnership in environmental assessment of Mackenzie Gas Project.

  • A call for better co-ordination between Dene National Chief and regional representative of the Assembly of First Nations. The plan includes sharing office space, joint meetings and an accounting of funding and budget for AFN regional representative.
