Yellowknife (July 09/04) - A sign reading "wrong way," recently posted at the Northern entrance to Trail's End off Niven Drive, doesn't seem to be registering with drivers.

"You can see there what's on the sign, but people are still going in," says longtime Trail's End resident Lew Delaney.

Cars entering the one-way Trail's End crescent should go through the street closest to Franklin and exit through the "wrong way" exit.

Delaney has lived on the street for at least eight years and says people driving in the exit now marked "wrong way" have always been a problem.

He worries that children playing in the road could get in the way of a car driving the wrong way.

"I think the problem is that people think they live on this end of the crescent they can come in this way, but it's not supposed to work that way. It's a one-way street," Delaney says.

Delaney said he has visited the City of Yellowknife, but wasn't able to meet with anybody about the problem.

"We haven't seen it to be a problem yet," said City of Yellowknife director of public works and engineering Greg Kehoe.

The fine for running through a sign marked "do not enter" is $75, said Doug Gillard, manager of municipal enforcement for the City of Yellowknife.
