Yellowknife (July 07/04) - A Yellowknife man has been convicted on two charges after inviting sexual touching from his daughter on several occasions.

The incidents occurred between April 28, 1992 and April 27, 2000, when the girl was between the ages of five and 12.

The victim told the court she was threatened and sometimes assaulted if she did not touch her father.

After hearing Justice Virginia Schuler had convicted him, the man cried out: "No, nothing happened," and sat shaking his head in disbelief.

He will be sentenced in Supreme Court, July 9 at 1:30 p.m.

He could face a maximum of 14 years in prison for separate convictions of invitation to sexual touching and assault.

Crown attorney Noel Sinclair is seeking a jail term. Defense counsel Alex Pringle is asking Schuler to hand down a conditional sentence to be served in the community.

Released on bail until the July 9 sentencing hearing, the man must report regularly to the RCMP and remain in the City of Yellowknife.
