Ronald and Rita Coleman won the money in a June 2 draw of Western 6-49.
Ronald says he wasn't really sure what they had won until he checked the ticket at the drugstore where he bought it. The clerk told him he had won $50,000 by matching five out of six numbers, plus a bonus number.
"I said, 'You've got to be joking me,'" Coleman says.
"I just about hit the floor," he recalls. "It just about blew me over."
Coleman, 66, says he and his 58-year-old wife regularly buy Lotto 6-49 and Western 6-49 tickets, but have never before won any large prizes. However, a few days after their big win, they matched five numbers and took home another $500.
They don't play the same numbers, but go with the quick pick option.
The couple plan to use their winnings for a trip to Wales in August to see Rita's relatives. They will also pay off a few bills and do some work on their house.
"$50,000 doesn't go that far," Coleman notes.
