Yellowknife (July 26/04) - There is no danger to North Slave communities from 12 wildfires currently burning.

One fire 19km northwest of Gameti is being fought. Others are being assessed for a need to fight them.

High temperatures in the region pose a threat from "a good chance of dry lightning," says the latest bulletin from Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development.

The fire danger remains at extreme.

Winds continue to blow smoke from Wood Buffalo National Park. Nine crews, three helicopters and two CL-215 tankers are on call to deal with the region's fires.
